On Exhibit at ReCreate Nov 8-30: The Secret Life of Leaves

Centered around the fall season,

The Secret Life of Leaves provides an accessible and engaging exploration into the hidden systems, transformations, and ecological roles of leaves. The Secret Life of Leaves sees the science of leaves thoughtfully curated and presented in dynamic and interactive ways to welcome visitors of all ages to learn about the complexity, beauty, and environmental significance in an autumn leaf.

The exhibit emphasizes environmental mindfulness, inviting the community to consider the intricate relationships within the natural world that are easy to overlook in our busy, modern world. By highlighting the chemistry behind the iconic hues of fall and the role leaves play in sustaining vital local ecosystems, the installation supports a deeper understanding of the environment and encourages thoughtful stewardship.

Reflecting ReCreate’s commitment to sustainability, all displays and installations are constructed using community-donated materials and upcycled elements. The exhibit therefore serves a dual purpose: expanding environmental knowledge while demonstrating the creative potential of reuse.

The Secret Life of Leaves blends science, creativity, and seasonal wonder to open the Mini Museum Adventure series with a celebration of fall, curiosity, and lifelong learning. Happy learning!!

The Secret Life of Leaves is the first installation in ReCreate’s Mini Museum Adventure series: an initiative that transforms our retail space into rotating, small-scale educational exhibits for our community to explore. Developed in collaboration with ReCreate’s education team, which has delivered science, environmental, and arts curriculum to Sacramento-area schools since 2008, this project brings the spirit of hands-on learning into the heart of our community space.
